How this app store fee calculator works
This app store fee calculator splits your sales into three buckets, because Apple and Google charge different rates for them: paid apps and one-time in-app purchases, subscriptions from subscribers in their first paid year, and subscriptions from subscribers past one year of paid service.
Commission = Σ (bucket sales × bucket rate)Net proceeds = gross sales − commissionEffective rate = commission ÷ gross sales
Choose a fee schedule to load its default rates, then adjust any field for your own program, region, or billing arrangement.
Apple App Store commission rates (as of October 2026)
- Standard: Apple confirmed when it launched the Small Business Program that “the App Store's standard commission rate of 30 percent remains in place” (Apple Newsroom).
- Small Business Program: a reduced 15% commission on paid apps and In-App Purchases for developers with no more than $1 million in proceeds in the previous calendar year and the current year. If you pass $1 million during the year, the standard rate applies to future sales (Apple Small Business Program).
- Subscriptions: on standard terms you receive 70% of the price during a subscriber's first year and 85% after one year of paid service; Small Business Program members receive 85% from the start. Free trials do not count toward paid service (Apple auto-renewable subscriptions).
Apple offers different terms in some regions, such as alternative terms in the EU. Those are not modeled by the presets; edit the rates if they apply to you.
Google Play service fees (as of October 2026)
Google's service fee page lists two schedules:
- Users in the US, EEA, and UK (from June 30, 2026; Australia and Japan from September 30, 2026): 10% plus a 5% billing fee on the first $1M of annual earnings and on auto-renewing subscriptions. Above $1M, other transactions cost 20% plus the billing fee for new installs and 25% plus the billing fee for existing installs. A “new install” is a user whose first install or update happened on or after the rollout date. The billing fee applies to purchases made with Google Play Billing and to the initial purchase of a paid app.
- All remaining markets: 15% on the first $1M of annual revenue for developers enrolled in the 15% service fee tier, 30% above that, and 15% for auto-renewing subscriptions.
The Google presets combine the service fee and billing fee for US users. Lower rates exist for programs such as Play Games Level Up and Apps Experience, and for external web links; enter them manually if they apply.
Worked example
Using the calculator defaults on Apple's standard schedule: $2,000 of one-time sales at 30% ($600), $5,000 of first-year subscriptions at 30% ($1,500), and $3,000 of subscriptions past one year at 15% ($450) give $2,550 of commission, $7,450 of net proceeds, and an effective rate of 25.5%. In the Small Business Program, the same sales cost $1,500 in commission.
